Peter Urs Bender, CSP

Peter left his native
Switzerland in 1967 and
arrived in Montreal on a
bitterly cold February
evening. He brought with
him a few dollars, his
accounting education and a
lot of energy. He could not
speak English and had never
been an outstanding
student. He had always been
too shy to address a group.
In Toronto, Peter sold accounting system software
and worked hard to develop his presentation skills. He joined the
Toronto Speakers Club (similar to Toastmasters) in 1970 and later
lectured at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute. During a twelve year
period, he taught courses in Business Management, Marketing for
Bankers and Public Speaking.
Today, Mr. Bender is one of the country’s top speakers, giving
keynote speeches and seminars to business people in companies
across Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia. He received
his Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) designation in 1993
from the National Speakers Association.
The press calls him the Business Presentation Guru and
his philosophy on presentation techniques has been quoted by the
Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Vancouver Sun, Commercial News,
Canadian Business magazine, Success magazine and many other
North American and European papers. His latest book, from
Stoddart Publishing, is called Leadership from Within.
Mr. Bender believes in both mental and physical fitness. When
an older brother died from a heart attack at age 39, Peter lost 25
pounds, quit smoking and began to run every day. He has since
completed 19 international marathons and in spite of his busy
schedule, he still keeps physically active.
     His motto is:
If we do what we've always done, we'll
get what we've always gotten.
